A mysterious vigilante in Mexico is stopping ‘bike thieves’ in a rather unusual way after a spike in crime.

Alleged thieves have been found duct-taped to posts, with the word ‘ratero’ written on their heads, which translates to ‘thief’.

The men were found around Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, often with moustaches and cat whiskers drawn on their cheeks, and the supposedly stolen motorbikes nearby.

The Sun reported that at least one man was left bloodied and bruised, allegedly after his interaction with the vigilante.

Local police are said to be treating the duct-taped men as victims in the situation and an investigation has been launched to find the mystery suspect.

A total of five cases have been reported, according to State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández.
